Attain was commissioned by South London and Maudsley (SLaM) to provide external support to enable strategic planning and development of the workforce across the Trust.

The work answered the following questions:

  • What is our workforce baseline?
  • What actions will we will take to secure our future?
  • What workforce do we need for the future?

What We did

  • Worked in partnership with SEL ICS to complete a workforce baseline, describing the availability of the workforce and its characteristics, at a staff group, operational directorate and Trust level.

  • Undertook stakeholder engagement to identify current recruitment and retention challenges.

  • Modelled future activity growth and Identified impact on future workforce requirements.

  • Described the gap, between the current and projected workforce need, and the estimated staff supply.

  • Undertook action planning, identifying what are the opportunities to close the resource gap.

Outcomes

We delivered a comprehensive workforce planning report which included:

  • A long list of opportunities to target recruitment & retention but also skill mix substitution of identified shortage professions.

  • Case studies to provide evidence to support effectiveness of interventions.

  • A roadmap of opportunities, to reduce the vacancy gap from 17% to 10%.

  • A proposed timeline for delivery of the roadmap.
