Attain was engaged by a system to agree on a strategic set of criteria for Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) locations, evaluate and present options appraisal of sites against criteria, and engage senior leaders in criteria to enable decisions on sites. We were commissioned initially to develop three specific business cases, which expanded to 10, for approval through the relevant host provider, agreement at system board, and agreement through NHSE process. During business case development, and then approval, Attain managed and directed all queries.

What We did

  • Full programme and project reporting established for all 10 business cases.

  • Strategic criteria agreed and evaluation undertaken.

  • Detailed support and completion of site business cases, including strategic, operational, and workforce sections.

  • Presentation and approval through site, system and national processes, including detailed financial planning and planning for future work.

  • Management of extensive questions, presentation and rapid case re-development process with NHSE.

Outcomes

  • 10 approved CDC sites through the national process.

  • £50m of capital and £50m recurrent revenue to support the development and sustained running of the sites.

  • 3 cases studies into national planning guidance, and asked to support and work with other systems by NHSE.

  • Full programme of development in place with project support to ensure the successful roll-out, management, and then benefits review of the 10 CDCs.

The best thing that we did for this programme was to bring in support from Attain, who knew what they were doing, who’ve worked with the system to deliver our aims, and the programme wouldn’t be anywhere without that.- Dr Liz Bishop, Chief Executive of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and SRO
