On their first 30 days with Attain

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My background is working in the NHS across a wide variety of national, regional, and local projects. I have worked in areas such as mental health, primary care, health inequalities, and most recently diagnostics, in particular pathology, all while working at a Commissioning Support Unit. Having studied politics and economics, I enjoy seeing how the NHS is influenced by wider factors and how the NHS has to respond in innovative ways to meet growing demand and complexity. Ultimately, I work in healthcare to drive change and improvement for both staff and patients, something that brings me great personal and professional fulfilment. Outside of work, I keep myself busy with my choir, swimming, and sometimes getting overly competitive at a pub quiz or playing board games.

How have your first 30 days been at Attain?

My first 30 days at Attain have been filled with so much learning and support. I was immediately struck with the exceptional skills and knowledge my colleagues possess, as well as the kindness that they’ve shown in welcoming me to the team. While it can feel a little intimidating to be working with so many experienced people, especially as I am early on in my career, the time that people have given to me has kept me feeling very supported.

What attracted you to Attain?

I was attracted to Attain because of their values and how this informs both their business decisions and people management. My ambition and drivers are improving the experience and outcomes of patients and staff in the NHS, and Attain’s values of impact, wellbeing and community align perfectly with that ambition. I was also attracted to the fact that most people working at Attain have previously worked in the NHS so they understand the system well and share the passion and care that I have for the NHS and its staff.

What’s the best thing about being employed with Attain?

Being surrounded by such experienced colleagues who allow me to work autonomously while also feeling supported. I feel trusted to manage my own workload, but know that if I have any questions there are a number of people I could speak to for advice. There is also a collaborative and fun approach to work as an organisation, as well as flexibility in ways of working and promotion of a good work/life balance.

What do you hope the future brings for you with Attain?

I hope to enjoy exposure to a variety of different projects in the NHS, not just to learn more about various departments and specialities but also to bring lessons and transferrable skills from previous projects. I hope to gain experience of managing complex programmes, including change management and strategic planning, all while developing a strong network of colleagues to support an ever-evolving NHS.
