Surrey CAMHS – Independent Review

Objectives

Within the South East, Surrey CAMHS system which includes Surrey County Council, six CCGs and the provider – Surrey and Borders Foundation Trust, Attain undertook a review of Surrey’s Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service to support the system to better understand challenges they were facing around demand, how to deliver more joined up care with non-specialist mental health services, and what impact their services were achieving.

What we did

Our support involved:

• Extensively engaging with a broad range of local stakeholders including local CAMHS service providers, commissioners, social care, health professionals, primary care, schools and the voluntary sector.
• Facilitating a series of workshops, interviews, focus groups, reviewed commissioner and provider data sources, and undertook joint root cause analysis
• Co-creating a set of short and longer-term recommendations which helped shape the future of the CAMHS system in Surrey, including strategic transformation, service redesign and development of a new model of care, and identified corresponding resourcing requirements.

Our impact

• Attain supported the local system to develop a shared understanding of challenges, dynamics and directions for the consolidation and provision of services for children and young people in the shorter and longer term.
• This includes a co-designed high-level strategy and model of care upon which it can transform the provision of CAMHS in the longer term as part of a set of services for children.
